Two of STC's Cluster Members bluechiip and MiniFAB will be present at LabAutomation 2010. LabAutomation is the premier laboratory automation event to be held in Palm Springs from 23-27 January.

bluechiip's CEO Brett Schwarz, is excited about demonstrating to the world their leading technology in tracking solutions as well as developing new partnerships.

START YOUR APPLICATIONS: Commercialisation Australia gets ready for business



Senator Carr appealed to businesses this week to start preparing their applications for assistance under the new Commercialisation Australia program. This program is designed to commercialise research especially in the area of new technologies. “It will help public sector researchers and private sector innovators turn their ideas into internationally competitive goods and services" said Senator Carr.

Commercialisation Australia will take a hands-on approach to help bring ideas to market offering a range of tailored assistance measures. Measures include: specialist advice and services, financial support to engage experienced executives, and grants for proof of concept and early stage commercialisation activities.

A BETTER LOOK INTO THE FUTURE

The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr, announced this week that Monash V1sion was successful in receiving the Australian Research Council’s grant to develop the Bionic Eye. "The Australian Government’s investment will help us to give and restore sight to thousands of people around the world," Senator Carr said.

Monash V1sion’s commercial partners MiniFAB and Grey Innovation will collaborate with researchers from Monash University and the Alfred Hospital to deliver a cortical implant that will stimulate the visual cortex and restore lost vision. The development of the Bionic Eye will ensure that Australia remains at the forefront in bionics.

New CEO of STC

I would like to take this opportunity to announce the appointment of Vanessa Heuser as the new CEO of STC. Vanessa brings with her considerable experience in the international chemicals industry with appointments in Germany, the UK, Brazil and Australia.

Most recently Vanessa was with the Australian Nano Business Forum (ANBF), the peak Australian industry body set up to foster awareness and the uptake of nanotechnology by Australian industries. In her capacity as General Manager of the ANBF, Vanessa built strong Federal and state government relationships, engaged extensively with Australian businesses and helped to promote Australia’s capabilities in micro and nano-technologies.
